What motivates artists as they leave art schools? Does an artist born in the 3rd millennium view their role in society differently? What are the challenges for an artist at the beginning of their career? These are some of the questions 100% L’EXPO asks each year by opening the Grande Halle de la Villette to young artists graduating from French art schools. Designed as a professional springboard and a showcase for the emerging scene, 100% L’EXPO has become, with this 7th edition, the indispensable contemporary art event dedicated to young artists.
We chose the only photographer: Emika Lannelongue. She explores the relationship between memories and evidence, questioning their role in constructing our identity. Her work invites us to question our own memories, highlighting their subjective nature and the impact they have on our perception of the world.
In Faille, she presents a world depopulated of human beings, but where their traces persist, as if humanity had suddenly disappeared. This series is distinguished by a radical gesture: the tearing of the photographic negative. Emika Lannelongue encourages us to become aware of the ephemeral nature of photography, emphasizing that these are only representations of reality, not reality itself.
The landscapes presented are familiar places, allowing the viewer to project their own memories and stories.
