Galerie Binome : Laurent Millet : Jardin d’après nature

Preview

Galerie Binome presents the exhibition Jardin d’après nature by Laurent Millet.

For almost 25 years, Laurent Millet has been combining photography with other media such as sculpture, site-specific installation and drawing. His hybrid works are formally timeless, reactivating primitive printing processes such as cyanotype and gum bichromate to blur the distinction between photography and drawing. Galerie Binome is developing this dialogue between the two media in two exhibitions devoted to the artist, Jardin d’après nature, on view until May 4th, and Vanités géométriques at Drawing Now from March 21st to 2424, 2024.

« Jardin d’après nature » : such a somewhat paradoxical title, suggesting the idea of extracting something from reality, isolating, perhaps magnifying, preserving, redrawing, establishes a link between Laurent Millet’s three series on show here. Hespérides (2023), Brion Vega, hommage à Scarpa (2020) and Schloss Im Wald zu Bauen (2012) all evoke nature. In each case, however, it’s a nature we can neither inhabit nor even touch. It escapes our grasp, but is embodied and alive in the images. In this way, each work offers our gaze a complete, albeit singular, world. We stand before them as if on a threshold, facing an infinitely desirable place.
