Galerie Agapé : Matthias Koch : Metamorphosis

Preview

At the Galerie Agapé in Aubenas, Matthias Koch presents Metamorphosis, a series dedicated to the transition from childhood to adolescence. The exhibition is accompanied by this text.

The result of nine years of intimate observation, Metamorphosis evokes the delicate metamorphosis from larva to butterfly.

Through this work, Matthias Koch documents this process of change, sometimes difficult, but always driven by hope and the conviction that all will end well.

The images, far from trivial, bear witness to a universal yet deeply personal experience. Each individual has undergone this transformation, both banal and unique. Koch, as witness and narrator, captures the physical evolution as much as the subtle transformation of the soul. His photographs recall the impermanence of life: the child becomes an adolescent, then an adult.

Born from a retrospective reflection on his own archives, the series now appears as a coherent whole, reflecting the end of an era and the emergence of a new chapter.

Metamorphosis is a silent ode to the beauty of human evolution and the hope that accompanies it.

Born in 1964 in Germany, Matthias Koch has been developing a photographic oeuvre for several decades, straddling the sensitive and the political.

A photographer of anxiety and slowness, Koch explores in his series the memory of places, the flaws of progress, and the silent transformations of our inner landscapes.

In collaboration with philosopher Claude Molzino, he published Figures of a World on Hold (L’Harmattan), a book that creates a dialogue between his images and the philosophical analysis that emerges from them.
