Galerie 127 : Sandrine Rousseau : Le Palais Intérieur, El Badiâ

Until June 30, the Galerie 127 in Marrakech is exhibiting Sandrine Rousseau. The gallery thus presents the series entitled: Le Palais Intérieur, El Badiâ

Conceived as sketches, the works in this corpus combine the expression of an interior universe with the essence of a place perceived from its details.

This series produced at the Baadi Palace in Marrakech is part of a larger set on Moroccan alleys and architecture. Here, Sandrine Rousseau is inspired by the pictorial qualities of places to render in a semi-abstract and abstract way the feeling that emerges from them.

If at first, the progressively more abstract images reveal the spirit of the place through their lines and their geometric volumes, they evolve through the presence of curves and organic shapes towards the expression of a more interior universe.

Created intuitively, these images are the result of a search for balance between shapes, textures and colors.

In this process, the sensory capacity to feel harmony is a phenomenon that questions the photographer.

The more abstract the images become, the more they attempt to bring out the soul – both of what is being photographed and whom is photographing – in other words – “the encounter” at a given moment of the essence of a place – and of the photographer.

Sandrine Rousseau uses the camera as a tool for the simultaneous exploration of the outside world and her inner world. A synergy then settles between his two universes which lead to an apparently abstract production although directly extracted from her environment.

She invites us to travel in a very personal universe whose refined graphics, simple lines, fine textures, and carefully selected colors are the metaphorical expression of an inner universe formulated in correlation with its positioning in the world.

Sandrine Rousseau has exhibited in France, England and Morocco. Her Resonances series was exhibited during the Paris Photo 2021 edition. Her works are part of private collections and the JP Morgan Bank.

The artist lives in the Pyrenees, France.
