Baroness Lambert just past away

Preview
Baroness Lambert just past away in London where she was hit by a bus.

She was one of the greatest collectors of photographs in the 80s and 90s, one of the first to be interested in photography. Christian Caujolle invited her in Arles in 1997 ,he had devoted an entire exhibition and an amazing evening performance at the Théâtre Antique to her.

He recalls: “Arles,  in 1997, with the exhibition for which we had opened the former Capitole cinema that Jean-Paul Capitani had acquired for the occasion, and that today is the marvellous exhibition space that he created from it. And then there was the screening where, for the first – and last – time she commented in public on her choices (she had been told , she would make the public boo and in fact it was just the opposite) before the screening that Nan Goldin had conceived especially for the evening performance and for which she had, for the first time, included a selection of photos of children.”

In 1999, for American Photo, at MET, Harry Benson had photographed the greatest collectors of photographs of the age.
