L’Artiere launches Scott Offen’s Grace with a new special limited edition selenium toned prints.
Offen’s Grace is a poetic and visually compelling collaboration between the artist and his wife, Grace—an intimate creative partnership that transcends traditional artistic roles and redefines the relationship between photographer and subject.
This evocative photographic series challenges conventions of gender, aging, and representation, presenting Grace not as a passive figure but as an empowered presence moving through dreamlike, symbolic landscapes. Suspended between domestic interiors and untamed nature, she embodies a mysterious, timeless persona—at once ethereal, powerful, and elusive.
Working with large-format cameras, Offen employs a slow, intentional process, crafting images that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination. The result is a body of work that invites viewers into a suspended world—one shaped by memory, myth, and transformation.
PROCESS & EXPERIENCE
At the heart of Grace is a deeply personal and physical process, shaped through ritual, endurance, and creative trust. She comments:
“In my time with my husband Scott taking our photos out in nature, I developed a persona which I understood more during the time we spent together in those special places. But without process, the persona would not be accessible to the viewer.”
“Wearing my costumes helped me transform into my mysterious character. We had always agreed that this multifaceted older woman/girl persona should explore an inscrutable world.”
“Everything had to reflect a sense of understated, classical timelessness, creating images where time appears to stand still.”
“The best rule we created together was ‘everybody’s picture gets made”.
“Because of our laser focus on how to create a timeless secret world, I could play the persona of an older woman who is just a solitary girl.”
These excerpts reveal the essence of the work: a lived collaboration where identity, environment, and performance merge into a singular photographic language.
