There couldn’t be a better theme, “Simple pleasures in a world of contrast,” for Julie de Waroquier to compete for the Prix SFR Jeunes Talents des Rencontres d’Arles.
A philosophy buff, a follower of Diderot and Sartre, de Waroquier has taken Bergson’s precept to heart: “We have to learn to be surprised.” And she does, remarkably, playing on the transformation of reality into a “Dreamality” far removed from the current events of our world from Damascus to Kabul.
