VU’ Gallery : Caritas Social Photo Award : Cyril Zannettacci, Karen Assayag, Pierre Jarlan

For the third edition of the Caritas Social Photo Award, the VU’ Gallery welcomes the 2022 winner Cyril Zannettacci (photographer member of the VU’ Agency) with his series “Parler à ceux que l’on n’écoute jamais !” (“Talking to those we never listen to! ”) as well as the exhibitions of the two finalists: Karen Assayag “Ce qu’il reste au fond de moi” (“What’s left inside me”) and Pierre Jarlan for his series “Ici et demain” (“Here and tomorrow”).

Karen Assayag exhibits a series produced in close association with women in very precarious situations and Pierre Jarlan a transmedia work on the living spaces and projects of young migrant minors.

It is at the heart of a care unit for the homeless that the photographer Cyril Zannettacci witnessed in 2021, the surge of the Covid-19 epidemic. Located in Nanterre, at the gates of Paris, the Center for Accommodation and Assistance to Homeless People (CHAPSA), a unique place in France, has welcomed, supported and cared for homeless people  since the end of the 19th century. Not having the same resources, nor the same reputation as classical medicine, social medicine suffers from a considerable lack of means.

The winner will receive an endowment of €4,000 and the publication by Filigranes publishing in November 2022 of a monographic book dedicated to the winning series.

Chaired this year by Mathieu Pernot, a recognized figure in social photography in France, the jury was made up of professionals from the world of photography and experts in the fight against poverty from the Caritas France Network. The prize also benefited from partnerships with the Collectif Fetart (artistic advisor to the award), the Galerie Le Château d’Eau in Toulouse, Filigranes, Picto Foundation, Polka magazine and SAIF.
