Preview

The purpose of this multidisciplinary festival? To give the public a direct glimpse on contemporary creation, and to provide artists with a generational platform to work in the post-residency period.

Designed as an annual event in 2016 on the initiative of La Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto and the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Medici ¡Viva Villa! regroups the works of the artists of these 3 institutions.

For its fourth year, and after the success of the 2018 edition in Marseille (5800 visitors to the Villa Méditerranée) ¡Viva Villa! 2019 is hosted by the Collection Lambert in Avignon from October 11 to November 10, 2019.

Close to the ramparts of the City of the Popes, the Lambert Collection opens the doors of the Hôtel de Montfaucon to this new edition curated by  Cécile Debray with a theme: The End of the Forests *, and a two stages calendar:

  • From October 11 to November 10, an exhibition (accompanied by a cultural mediation program) presents the work of some fifty researchers and visual artists, musicians, graphic artists, designers, filmmakers, writers, art historians. ..

The works of the permanent collection and the proposals of the artists inspired by their stays in Madrid, Kyoto or Rome come together and meet in a cross reference game. In the same way, four “Jeudis de la Collection” are offered to artists, researchers, authors of ¡Viva Villa!

  • In counterpoint, from October 11 to October 16, a program of performances, concerts, readings, films, meetings, comes to punctuate the launch of the festival.

This edition is also an opportunity to organize in Avignon professional meeting times with the founding institutions of ¡Viva Villa!, Their partners and guardians, the residences of artists of the South Region, the great institutions of the latter as well as a decentralized plenary session of the Academy of Fine Arts.

51 artists, as many guests, 19 disciplines discussed, and through Madrid, Rome and Kyoto a whole world to discover.

After two Parisian editions – at the Palais Royal in 2016 and the Cité internationale des arts in 2017 – and then a Marseillaise stopover at the Villa Méditerranée in 2018, ¡Viva Villa! with the support of the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Ministry of Culture, the French Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts, is hosted at the Lambert Collection in Avignon from October 11 to 10 November 2019.
