Visa resists the Coronavirus curse

This is the great news of the day! An email from Jean Francois Camp that we just received!

If there is only one festival left this year in France, it could only be this one: VISA POUR L’IMAGE.

After having witnessed for more than 30 years the wars and conflicts which ravage the world, the International Festival of Photojournalism of Perpignan will be, at the beginning of September, THE meeting place for photographers and all the defenders of the freedom of information.

Yesterday afternoon through a video conference, the president of the association “Visa pour l’Image”, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, in the presence of the mayor of Perpignan Jean-Marc Pujol,  Jean-François Leroy, director of the festival, Marion Hislen, delegate for photography at the Ministry of Culture, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the Drac, the Region, the Department and the Board of Directors, all the actors of this event made the historical decision to keep it open. About twenty exhibitions will be presented at the Convent of Minimes, of course respecting the new security rules in force. But the great originality was offered by Jean-François Leroy, who will propose a daily retransmission on line of the evening projections – these cannot be held at Campo Santo. This transmission, which will reach a considerable audience, beyond our borders, could in the long term considerably transform the functioning of the festival and our way of apprehending the image as testimony to realities. Hopefully this technological development will encompass all forms of creation, videos and web-documentaries, and thus more widely resonate with the challenges of current photojournalism!
