By bicycle
My bicycle and I have a story that began in my childhood. It invited me on a journey through the fields of my native Beauce. My friends and I invented it, tinkered with it, dressed it up, and gave it a youthful look by adorning it with new colors. It resembled us, sometimes happy, sad, playful, tired, or full of energy. The roads, the paths, France, Europe, the world attracted it, but we were too young to go far. An object of pleasure, an object of desire, an object of work, an object of travel. We find it everywhere, from Paris to Hanoi, via New York, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Kathmandu, and many more… During my many travels, I often crossed paths with it; since I couldn’t bring it with me, I delighted in photographing it. Depending on the country, it becomes a work, a ride, a transporter, and changes names to become a pedicab or a tricycle. Young people around the world are escaping their parents’ gaze just as we did, and lovers are dreaming of a life spent together. Whether it’s a women’s bicycle or a men’s bicycle, to each their own… Today, in response to societal and climate change, land-use policies are promoting environmentally friendly travel. If you own a bike, it’s not too late to dust it off and use it every day. By doing so, you’re already taking the first step toward sustainable mobility. If you don’t have one, now’s probably the time to get one or turn to the bike-sharing system. In short, ride your bike, get out and about, and have fun while protecting our beautiful planet.
