Tania Brassesco and Lazlo Passi Norberto: A moment of silence

Preview

Le temps d’un silence (A moment of silence) is an aside, the moment that photographers Tania Brassesco et Lazlo Passi Norberto freezed through their series Behind the Visible and The Essence of Decadence. They are scenes of life, through different epochs, which transcribe the more or less conscious state of mind of an entire generation. Tania and Lazlo tell us a story with many levels of interpretation.

Here is the story of a woman on a quest for inspiration who feels confined in a life which does not really suit her. She strives to emancipate herself through art and nature: music or literature. In her search for her unconscious mind, she confronts her demons, her past, but always with her sights set on the future. Her past is akin to a soft murmur passed down from mother to daughter, an almost inaudible speech, near silence.

In a sense it is also art history which repeats itself. New approaches and new lines of thought are set up indefinitely and the artist endeavors to confront, surpass, and transcend himself, to overtake the world surrounding him. Tania Brassesco et Lazlo Passi Norberto trace a parallel between the industrial revolution and the current digital revolution. They use artistic references over a century old to express the still present sentiment of the Baudelairian spleen. With their staged photography, they like film directors through a silence evoked in the space of an instant captured, transcribe in a single unique image the time both lapsed and foreshadowed.
