Sylvie Hugues elected correspondent at the Académie des beaux-arts (photography section)

During the plenary session of Wednesday February 24th, 2021, the Académie des beaux-arts elected Mrs Sylvie Hugues as the correspondent of the photography section. Alongside Bernard Perrine, Agnès de Gouvion Sain-Cyr and Jean-Luc Monterosso, she will support the work of the three members of the photography section: Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Sebastião Salgado and Jean Gaumy.

Sylvie Hugues has been a photography consultant and artistic director of the Festival du Regard since 2016. She works in many sectors of photography and reads portfolios at the European House of Photography, gives workshops (Rencontres d’Arles, Venezia Photo …), Writes for magazines (Le Monde de la Photo, Fisheye) and collaborates with the Camera Obscura gallery. In 1992, she participated in the creation of the magazine Réponses Photo, of which she was the editor-in-chief from 1996 to 2014. As a journalist, she co-wrote “Concevoir un portfolio” with Eyrolles editions and “La photo numérique en dix lessons ”published by Minerva. As a photographer, she has published two books: “On the beach” with Filigranes editions and “Fra-For” with Verlhac editions. Sylvie Hugues is rapporteur for the Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière – Academy of Fine Arts Prize and curated the exhibition of photographer FLORE, “The smell of the night was that of jasmine”, which has just ended at the Pavillon Comtesse de Caen, Palais of the Institut de France. In 2020, she won the “Residence for Photography” Prize from the Treilles Foundation. She is artistic advisor for the HSBC Prize for Photography in 2021.
