Stephan Zaubitzer – CinéMéditerranées

Preview

On the occasion of the Biennale of Photographers of the Contemporary Arab World, in partnership with the Society of Friends of IMA, Anne-Dominique Toussaint is pleased to present CinésMéditerranée, an ephemeral exhibition of the photographic work of Stephan Zaubitzer, from Friday the 13th to Saturday, September 21st, 2019.

Stephan Zaubitzer is a photo-trotter who has been working since 2003 on a major project: photographing cinemas around the world. Loaded with a large format camera, he walks the dark rooms carried by the idea that “the movie theatre is a space where all the imaginary are invited”.

In 2015 Galerie Cinema presented Ecrans, duo show articulated around the photographs of Stephan Zaubitzer and Harry Gruyaert.

As part of the new edition of the Biennale of Photographers of the Contemporary Arab World organised by IMA, Stephan Zaubitzer returns to the gallery and invites the public to share his photo-cinematographic journey. Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria … A panorama of the theatre of the Arab world that the artist is still working on today, aware that the cinema is above all a moving experience that takes shape through the surroundings of the image, the places and situations. This inventory of the southern shore of the Mediterranean will be unveiled at the Galerie Anne-Dominique Toussaint from September 13 to September 21, 2019.
