A magical story: that of an alternative, ecological, and natural film developer. By Jacques Revon
It’s a simple story, born of my curiosity. I invented nothing I simply explored. After weeks of research and experimentation to develop black-and-white film with what’s known as an “alternative” developer, I wanted to share this rather magical adventure.
At the end of 2022, I discovered that certain components and molecules found in photographic developers are also present, in varying proportions, in many aromatic herbs. Driven by curiosity, I wanted to learn more…
That’s when I decided to test the aromatic herbs I had on hand in the garden: sage, peppermint, thyme, rosemary… For years, these herbs had been right there, practically reaching out to me!
That’s how my story of making and using a natural alternative developer began.
Today, as I continue my research, I want to tell the story of this whole beautiful journey, and above all to pass it on, as much as possible, to all lovers of film photography in search of a more ecological approach.
