Built by Victor Baltard (1805-1874) between 1857 and 1874, the iron structures of Les Halles de Paris supplied the capital with meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and more. Too cramped to feed a growing population, the Belly of Paris was demolished in 1973. A pavilion was rebuilt in Nogent-sur-Marne and a second in Yokohama, Japan.
