Ralph Gibson in the 2000s

Preview

To mark the exhibition Ralph Gibson : La Trilogie, 1970-1974, The Eye of Photography brings you a special edition with a small retrospective of Ralph Gibson’s career. This is a selection of his most beautiful images of the first decade of this century. The American photographer visited Brazil and caught it in all its carnival splendour, with the intimacy that has been his trademark for forty years (Brazil, 2005). Vibrant colours, natural and artificial, the tropics, the sun beating down on the beaches and the drums being beaten, and, of course, the women’s faces. Among his other series, there is also Ex Libris (2001), his thirtieth monograph which chronicles writing down the ages, bringing a new interpretation of signs, letterforms, shapes and images used to document the history of humanity; and Light Strings (2004), a compilation of images devoted to the guitar.
