The beautiful and disturbing figures of Marlous van der Sloot (Netherlands, 1986) allow her to explore the human body through opposite and complementary perspectives. The proximity evoked by her images, charged with feelings and emotions, is counterbalanced by a sense of oddness sprung from the unusual postures and gestures of the characters. Hence, the artist comments on the estrangement of human beings in a society that favors reason over feelings.
