Introduction
Since 2003, Galerie m is owned by Susanne Breidenbach. The gallery program includes works in various media, such as painting, graphic, photography, sculpture as well as video and space installation.
Up to five exhibitions per year are shown. Additionally, a close cooperation with national and international museums, art festivals, and other institutions, forms an essential part of the gallery work, which enables represented artists to take part in various exhibitions worldwide.
Over a period of almost 40 years, Galerie m Bochum concentrates on international contemporary art in all genres. Founded in 1969 by Alexander von Berswordt as a gallery for Neue Konkrete Kunst, photography, film and video art, the programmatic emphasis of the gallery has continuously extended and opened up for new artistic
positions.
Apart from Art Basel, the gallery regularly participates at Paris Photo. A wide range of books and catalogues published by the gallery is meant to ground this engagement.
The support of upcoming young artists is as important as the continuous work with already established artists, for instance, Richard Serra, Gotthard Graubner, Arnulf Rainer, Lee Ufan or François Morellet.
Young artistic positions are not considered in reference to quick trends, but rather in terms of a long-term collaboration as well as an intense examination and followingup of their artistic development. Artists discovered by the gallery are photographers such as Evelyn Hofer, Lucinda Devlin, Aino Kannisto or Simone Nieweg, as well as painters as for example Sybille Berger or Alfredo Álvarez Plágaro and sculptors like Carla Guagliardi.
Sustainability and care are also an important basis for the relationship with private customers, museums and companies. Consulting and building-up of private as well as company collections has always been part of the gallery work.

What is your point of view on the financial side of the photographic market today?
Photography inherits a dynamic movement but especially since the fast development of the digital technologies this aspect increased.
We are pleasently surprised that the quality of the prints from digital material can (now) easily keep up with the quality of the analog photographic prints.
On the other side – techniques like dye transfer as Evelyn Hofer used for example, will always have an outstanding quality in comparison with other techniques.
On the aesthetic point of view it is really fascinating to notice the extensive diversity and variety photography represents.
In the economic sense, photography appeals to a wide range of collectors. The prise range for photography in general offers the possibility for reasonably priced art, which is nonetheless seldom.
