Paris: Nofound Photo Fair 2012

Preview

In Paris, celebrations have already started with various openings of shows, festivals and fairs, and the Photography Week is not finished yet. Paris Photo will open soon. The nofound photo fair too. The event was held for the first time last year in Paris, then at Voies Off in Arles, and featured a promising selection of works. This young art fair is dedicated to contemporary photography and begins to earn its spurs. Four days long, from November 16th – 19th, the fair will take place at Garage Turenne, in Le Marais area.

Emeric Glayse, the art director of nofound photo fair 2012, introduces the event as follows: “nofound photo fair arose out of the encounter between nofound, and Access&Paradox, a fair focusing on emerging artists in Paris. nofound 2007-2010 was an online curatorial project dedicated to contemporary photography. I invited photographers and artists to present their most recent work on this platform. Access&Paradox was a contemporary art fair conceived as a forum for exchange. It is the only fair that has ever been part of a UNESCO exchange program.

The festival aims to feature images by contemporary artists, not necessarily photographers, who are using or reflecting on photography in their works. The nofound Prize is a perfect example of this direction. This awards recognizes an artist who defines photography as a multidimensional art that can interact with other disciplines, media or means of expression. Marie Quéau has been rewarded this year.

Also new this year, the Found is a photography bookshop where the visitors can find all kind of information about books, galleries and artists.

nofound photo fair is designed to be a global exhibition space. Exhibitors are chosen on a project-by-project basis. When they apply to the fair, they give a detailed description of their project – an installation, a themed exhibition, a solo show etc. -, along with a list of artists. After the exhibitors have been chosen, we discuss the best way to display their project within the space available to them. We also take care of the construction of their booth, which is made-to-measure.

In total, the fair will host more than forty exhibitors. They are mainly Europeans but not exclusively, with two Japanese galleries participating to the event this year. Here is a selection of works that will be featured at nofound: classical painting revisited by Victoria Hall, deserted South African landscapes by Graeme Williams, “indoor clouds” by Bernault Smilde, intense portraits by Tom Woodw. Harmony Korine’s solo show also promises to be exciting. A Jack-of-all-trades artist, Harmony Korine is also known as the scriptwriter of Larry Clark’s Kids. The exhibition is presented by ARTE and Galerie du jour – agnès b.
