Paris, in the footsteps of Jean Claude Gautrand

Preview

The exhibition “Paris, in the footsteps of Jean Claude Gautrand” will be held during the Festival “Les Photographiques” 2022 in the city of Le Mans.

Gleaned from his photographic walks since the beginning of the 1960s, these black and white photographs make us discover the demolition of the Halles de Baltard “the belly of Paris”, the construction of the ring road, the walls during May 68, the wine warehouses of Bercy, bathed in divine light. In his Parisian walks, the man had whimsical meetings, he dissolved in this real little street theater which offers us many moments of emotion or astonishment. We find here some of these humanist accents in which he bathed among his friends Doisneau or Ronis, with however a more acute sense of graphics and the eloquence of forms and lines. As Julien Green wrote: “The city only smiles at those who approach it and stroll through its streets, to those it speaks a reassuring and familiar language”

The exhibition is presented at the Hotel de Ville/LE MANS as part of the Festival “Les Photographiques” 2022.

It will be held until April 8, 2022.

The entire program of Les Photographiques 2022 can be consulted on www.photographiques.org.
