The founder of the Berlin site EyeEm presented his community mobile application, the first Instagram competitor, by emphasizing the indexing of photos. He discussed the importance of meta-data at EyeEm, where users aren’t the ones who tag the photos. (Daniel Barroy echoed this point in his opening speech.) Their tool, Eyesearch, allows users to locate photos with a simple search. Florian capitalizes on the photographic sensor’s smaller size. How far will it go? Into the eye itself?

Florian Meissner holds an MBA from ESCP Europe and studied in Vienna and Berlin at Wirtschaftsuniversität and Humboldt, respectively. After years of working in advertising, marketing and media (DDB, Henkel, Resources), he became a photographer in 2005. He launched EyeEM in 2011 to enable people to connect to photography in new ways. EyeEM was recognised twice in 2013 as Best Product Startup (The Europas) and Best Mobile App (The Next Web Startup Awards).
