New Orleans : Elliott Erwitt, Black & White and Kolor

Preview

A Gallery For Fine Photography presents Elliott Erwitt’s exhibition of 40 black & white and color photographs. The exhibition includes a selection of photographs from his newly published book Kolor, a masterwork of Erwitt’s color slides and Kodachromes.

Kolor is spelled with a K as a tribute to George Eastman Kodak.  Erwitts personal voice shines through in his selection of takes and outtakes.  He and three assistants spent 6 months sifting through over 500,000 35mm slides some 5 decades old.
Erwitt is known for his candid often humorous or ironic moments captured in black and white. While shooting color film for assignments, he carried a second camera loaded with black & white film, and produced many of the photographs we have recognized as his today.  At the time, color photography was not accepted in the fine art world partly due to the shorter life span of color prints.  With modern technology, Erwitt’s remastered color photographs, some decades old, come alive as vibrant pigment prints.
