Natulia Baluta–Love Story

Preview

I am Natalia Baluta, independent photographer from Moscow, Russia, in search of my own place in contemporary photography. The area of my greatest interest is exploring how photography can show invisible, things which do not have physical substance, like time, feelings, memory or personal identity.
I would like to submit for your review and publication my project “Love story which never happened”
We do not have direct access to the physical world other than through our senses. The light that falls onto your eye allows you to sense the world, but it is meaningless, it could mean anything. The light that falls onto the film, the light that makes the picture is real, there was a particular moment in time when this light existed, but the light is meaningless.
What we do with the information – this really matters. Our senses are true, but our brain fails to understand what is true. Our brain does not see the world the way it is but in the way it was useful to see the world in the past. Brain automatically drives us to conclusion based on past experiences, forces us to believe that what we see at picture is real and true.
In this project I’m exploring the visual perception of love. We were taught by so many movies and art to recognize the visuals of love. And so often love appears to be just an illusion – nonexistent memory. I see so many traces of events that were to happen, pieces that seem to mean something. I’m revealing them in dozens of different places, collecting and putting them together, removing the unnecessary rest of reality, constructing the “Love” which never happened, new reality which brain would easily accept.
