This is an exhibition by Gérard Uféras at the Museo Teatrale alla Scala in Milan until September 30, 2025. It is also a book published by Il Saggiatore. Both are presented in this way.
After spending a year with the Paris Opera Ballet Company, which led to the exhibition and the book “A Step to the Stars” in 2006, he had being invited in 2011 by the Bolshoi Ballet, along with Sarah Moon and Peter Lindbergh, for a carte blanche during the reopening of the Moscow Opera after six years of work that also led to the publication of a book, Gérard Uféras now gives us his vision of the life of the Ballet of La Scala in Milan in a work carried out from 2017 to 2023. It is with an in-depth look, full of poetry and formal rigor, that Gérard Uféras tells how the passion for dance is lived on a daily basis. We penetrate, thus guided by a sensitive gaze into what is usually kept secret, to witness the precise moment when the alchemy takes place, when the reality of the show is transformed into a dream, when the magic of creation is accomplished. Gérard Uféras gives us his vision of the dancers’ work and brilliantly recreates the magic of the show.
