The Dikeou Collection is pleased to announce the acquisition of works by Dutch photographer, Sebastiaan Bremer from his series Schöner Götterfunken, which were shot with color reversal Kodak Safety film. As part of Denver’s Month of Photography 2013, two of Bremer’s large-scale photographs will be on view at the Dikeou Collection Pop-Up Space located at 1331 Bannock St., Denver CO 80204.
In this series, Bremer works primarily with snapshots from his own family, where he paints or draws upon the images, enlarges them, and then re-photographs them. This creates works that exist in between the worlds of painting and photography, where, as Bremer says, “you see how it’s made but the magic still works.” Works from Schöner Götterfunken have been exhibited at Edwynn Houk Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland (2012), Daegu Photo Biennale, Korea (2012), and by The Lower East Side Printshop at Editions|Artists’ Book Fair, New York (2013).
