Montreal: PhotoForum 2014 at Les Territoires Gallery

Preview

From October 4th to 25th, the Galeries Les Territoires in Montreal is holding a group exhibition featuring the work of 40 young photographers. With a focus on contemporary art, the team at PHOTOFORUM makes a biannual call for portfolios from emerging artists, giving them an opportunity to exhibit their work. By promoting exchanges between photographers and experts from the art world, director Pablo Rodriguez organizes portfolio readings where each participant can present his or her work to curators, art critics and gallerists invited to discover new talent. For Rodriguez, the event is a showcase for contemporary photography, open to Canadian and foreign artists. Each photographer exhibits only one work representative of their artistic approach.

For its third edition, the jury is offering visitors a diverse selection ranging from the conceptual to the documentary. Artists include: Catherine Tremblay, whose photographic alphabet spurs an interaction with the public in search of letters matching pictures; Newfoundland native Rhonda Pelley juggles lights and shadows, calling to mind the world of surrealism; and Montreal-based documentary photographer Andreas Rutkauskas photographs the invisible lines representing borders in the vast North American territories inhabited by generations of people for whom these abstract boundaries are a new reality.
