I offer you a journey through 18 images, drawn from my book Le Saisissement, self-published this spring. It is a visual and textual immersion into attachment to territory as the foundation of our intimate narratives. This work questions the shifting contours of identity, not as a fixed given, but as a concept in perpetual negotiation: between inherited memory, what is imposed upon us, and what we choose to be. This memory is not a monolithic block — it can be a straitjacket when it imposes rigid narratives, but also a source of inspiration for reinventing oneself.
The landscapes are stifled cries. They stretch out, immense, like trees between sky and earth. A violence rumbles within them, muffled and necessary — that of an inner struggle where every horizon is at once a promise and a wound. Facing them, the macro shots — flowers, insects, fragments of life — become parallel universes. It is the details that save us, those little nothings which, assembled, make up the salt of our existence. Between the two, a tension: the intimate revealing itself as universal.
The images unfold outdoors as well as indoors, but always with the sensation of an invisible huis clos. Faces are absent — out of modesty, but also by choice. Their absence hollows out the space and deposits a ghostly presence within it. One can almost hear the breath of a distant volcano, that soft and constant threat which reminds us that we are alive.
