Founded in Lyon in 1980, the gallery Vrais Rêves exists thanks to an association of volunteer photography fans. With great freedom in its artistic choices, the gallery aims to showcase photographs of a poetic, dreamlike or philosophical nature. Duane Michals has been exhibited there twice.
For the MIA, the gallery will exhibit work by the photographer couple Pilar Albajar and Antonio Altarriba taken from their latest surrealist series, Tyrannie, which they describe as follows:
“Whether terrifying or cordial, she is still an animal, covering up her bestial instincts. Deep down, she is nothing but a barely-civilized manifestation of the struggle for territoriality, hierarchy in the clan, sexual exclusivity… That is why we are presenting her here through figures with animal heads.”
