Médiatheque Francois Mitterrand – Poitiers : Camille Gharbi : There’s no such thing as monsters

Preview

The Médiatheque Francois Mitterrand in Poitiers presents an astonishing exhibition by Camille Gharbi entitled: There’s no such thing as monsters.

This photographic work is a reflection on domestic violence, from the point of view of the perpetrators. It is an attempt to understand the mechanisms that lead to acts of violence, in order to prevent them more effectively. Without excusing or minimising anything, this series of photographs and personal accounts highlights the perpetrators of domestic violence who are incarcerated, and who are engaged in a process of reflection about their actions. By facing up to their responsibilities and speaking out about their actions, these individuals can help prevent the crimes for which they have been convicted.

Through them, society as a whole must face up to its own violence.
