Magnetic fields
In my work, I explore the interplay between science and art by using ferrofluids, food coloring, and magnets to create abstract photography that embodies the tension between order and chaos. Ferrofluids, magnetic liquids that respond to magnetic fields, provide a dynamic and ever-changing medium that allows me to capture fleeting moments of transformation. As the fluid reacts to magnetic forces, it forms intricate, organic shapes that are both chaotic and controlled, representing the natural beauty of movement and transformation.
The addition of food coloring introduces vibrant hues into the scene, creating a contrast between the fluid’s natural, black sheen and the bold colors that accentuate its fluidity. These colors interact with the ferrofluid in unpredictable ways, further emphasizing the abstract nature of the work. I use magnets to guide the fluid, but the unpredictability of its response often leads to surprising results, pushing the boundaries of my control and allowing the fluid to dictate its own form.
Through this process, I aim to capture the essence of change—fluid, transient, and ever-evolving. My photographs are a window into a world that blurs the lines between scientific phenomena and artistic expression, inviting viewers to contemplate the forces at play within and beyond the image itself. The work is not just about what is seen in the moment but also about the transient beauty of change and the unseen forces that shape the world around us.
