The Rencontres d’Arles opens today. The theme is “Arles is Black” a provocation, a challenge, pure nostalgia or a statement of belief? Time will tell! The program looks very promising: with Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sergio Larrain, Guy Bourdin, Pierre Jamet, Wolfgang Tillmans, Eric Kessels and the exhibition on South Africa by both South African and french photographers … For eight days, we’ll be reporting on everything, then on July 9th, Le Journal will desert and head for the beach. Then it’s you, the readers, who will publish each day your holiday pictures.
In July the weekend portfolios will be judged by Quentin Bajac, from the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in August by Anne Biroleau, Curator-in-Chief of the Prints and Photography Department of the National Library of France.
