The Rencontres d'Arles opens today. Is the theme "Arles is Black" a provocation, a challenge, pure nostalgia or a statement of belief? Time will tell! The programme looks very promising: with Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sergio Larrain, Guy Bourdin, Pierre Jamet, Wolfgang Tillmans, Eric Kessels and the exhibition on South African photographers … For eight days, we'll be reporting on everything, then on 9th July, Le Journal will desert and head for the beach. Then it's you, the readers, who will publish each day your holiday photos. In July the weekend portfolios will be judged by Quentin Bajac, from the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in August by Anne Biroleau, Curator-in-Chief of the Prints and Photographs Department at the National Library of France.
