L’ahah : Jeffrey Silverthorne : Pleasures, Sadness, Sometimes

Preview

For his return in France, Jeffrey Silverthorne will invest the two spaces of L’ahah, #Griset and #Moret, with a personal exhibition whose bittersweet title will remind those who already know the work of the American photographer of his terrible lucidity. With humor, always – whether he’s smiling tenderly or raising an embarrassed eyebrow …

For those who will discover the work of the artist, member of l’Ahah since its creation, “Pleasures, Sadness, Sometimes” will offer a journey through the different series and eras of his work and, freeing himself from any chronology ,  photographs dating from the 1970s to the present day will converse, including his most recent productions, still unpublished.

Of these conversations between photographs, which will certainly be amplified by complicit glances, the evidence will rustle: that of an incredible formal inventiveness and an unrelenting intellectual consistency; that of a complexity in the image of existence, pleasures, sadness, sometimes.

Born in Hawaii in 1946, Jeffrey Silverthorne lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island in the United States.

Among the recent personal exhibitions of his prestigious international career as a photographer, we can cite the retrospectives of the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg in 2016, those of the FoMu of Antwerp 2015, as well as those of the Nicéphore Niepce Museum in Chalon-sur-Saône in 2014 and the VU ’gallery at the Rencontres de la photographie in Arles in 2008.

Jeffrey Silverthorne has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, notably in France at the Suzanne Tarasieve gallery in 2015 and in 2008 at the National Library and at the Bernard Anthonioz House of Art in Nogent-sur-Marne.

Jeffrey Silverthorne has been a member of L’ahah since 2017.
