Juan Naranjo:–L’histoire racontée

Preview

It was in the 1970s that we first recognized the important role that photography had played as a means of expression and communication throughout history. Once again it is well represented in the artworld, receiving increasing coverage in magazines like ArtForum, Art in America, Flash At and The Print Collector’s Newsletter. Important museums and galleries like Leo Castelli and the Marlborough Gallery also began to exhibit the work of young photographers. Companies like Sotheby’s, Christie’s and the Shawn Gallery held regular photography auctions in New York and London. That decade also saw the opening of the first photography museums, like the museum of Nicéphore Niepce in Châlon-sur-Saône in 1972, as well as international photography festivals.
