Jean-François Bauret & Claude Bauret Allard : Light and the Darkroom

Preview

The exhibition Clarté et Chambre Noire (Light and the Darkroom) is on view until May 13 at the City Hall of the 17th arrondissement. It offers a fresh perspective on the work of Claude Bauret Allard and images by her late husband Jean-François Bauret.

« Responding to an invitation by the City Hall of the 17th arrondissement to exhibit my and my husband Jean-François Bauret’s photos, I suggested that we show the ‘inhabitants of Muret’, as a sequel to an exhibition organized a few years ago in the same location by the MEP, entitled Les gens d’ici, featuring portraits of local residents.
The giant Polaroids currently on display were commissioned by the City Hall of Muret, a small town in the Langedoc-Roussillon region, and were published as a book in 1992. They are being shown in Paris for the first time.
Each 60×80 cm picture is unique, taken with a giant camera that was touring the world.
This portrait gallery is remarkable for the quality of the exchange between the photographer and his subjects who look directly at the camera.
For my part, I am showing images from my everyday life, more reflective of my gaze as a painter than as a photographer, which I do not pretend to be.
I use photography as a medium, just like I would pastels or black chalk. »
