An Ordinary Family
An Ordinary Family is an autobiographical art project created from photographs taken from family archives, which the artist Iulia Nosar reinterprets through drawing. It is an act of intimate appropriation, not of nostalgia, but of a return to the spoken word. The project explores human life under Soviet occupation: from the inside, with love, lucidity, and humor. It is not about evoking a “Soviet childhood,” but about questioning resistance, style, dignity, and creativity in everyday life. By combining family photographs and drawings on ordinary A4 paper, Iulia Nosar creates a bridge between the past and the present. Her works challenge stereotypes about Eastern Europe, showing that, despite our differences, we share common values, the most important being respect for life and individual freedom. This project proposes a dialogue between different memories of Europe, still too often separated by imaginary borders and preconceived ideas.
