Isabelle Banco : Rosarum Corpus

Preview

The Lame gallery, based in Marseille is prolonging the exhibition of work by Isabelle Banco until 15th January 2016. On display since the beginning of October, the works of the Perpignan photographer are composed of several black and white series and are part of a greater project with a collective name: “Surfaces”. This is an event comprising a series of exhibitions of several photographers on the theme of the surface, water, the skin and the town.

Rosarum Corpus

The richness of a place and its constraints give me the space to observe  “the apparition as a natural object” of the body of my models,to borrow Alberto Moravia’s words from his profile of the young Claudia Cardinale. Following his example, I examine closely their physical attributes, seeking out how they perceive and understand themselves, how they make use of their bodies, unique, alive. And how these bodies, belonging to equally unique beings, move and are made to move. When giving themselves to nature , how and to what extent, do they manage to divest themselves of culture, time and the world in general? What is proposed, in the photographer’s eyes, in the offer of one’s own nudity, with only the protection of a posture or a gesture?

And who would risk losing control of oneself or one’s body?

A dialogue is established between them and me, of mutual acceptance and studied elegance, as if we were dancing.
