Intesa Sanpaolo / Gallerie d’Italia – Turin : Jeff Wall. Photographs

Preview

Intesa Sanpaolo presents a new exhibition until February 1, 2026 at the Gallerie d’Italia – Turin, entitled “Jeff Wall. Photographs” dedicated to one of the most significant and influential contemporary photographic artists, curated by David Campany, writer, art critic and creative director of the International Center of Photography in New York.

Jeff Wall (Vancouver, 1946) has been moving between spectacular staging and documentary observation for over 40 years, making images that explore every aspect of contemporary society. Both familiar and disturbing, his photographs elevate everyday situations to the strange and dreamlike. Presented life-size, his images are among some of the most celebrated works of contemporary art.

In his commitment to an art of everyday life, Wall addresses major social and political issues, exploring the complex ways in which they shape our lives. Topics of nature, war, gender, race and class permeate his works, which are often as enigmatic as the issues they are inspired by. His art is influenced by the work of many great photographers and painters, but also by literature and cinema, in particular Italian neo-realism with its alternation of mundane life and drama.

With 27 large-format works on display, the exhibition at Intesa Sanpaolo’s Gallerie d’Italia – Turin will bring together every aspect of the Canadian photographer’s work, from the most important photographs of the late 1970s to the most recent productions, recounting his work on several levels.

Curator David Campany (London, 1967) has known and worked with Jeff Wall for almost twenty years and is the foremost authority on the subject. He has published several essays and conversations with Wall and has exhibited his photographs on several occasions (at the ICP in New York, the Whitechapel Gallery in London, Le Bal in Paris and FoMu in Antwerp). This represents one of the most important exhibitions on the photographer and the culmination of Campany’s engagement with Jeff Wall’s work.

The museum in Turin, together with those in Milan, Naples and Vicenza, is part of Intesa Sanpaolo’s Gallerie d’Italia museum project, led by Michele Coppola, the Bank’s Executive Director of Art, Culture and Historical Assets.
