Henry Horenstein’s latest book, Miles and Miles of Texas features a collection of nearly 100 photographs that Henry has taken throughout Texas, mostly between 2021-2024, with some from years past. Texas has been a continual source of inspiration for Henry during his 50- year career, and these pictures reflect the people, places, and culture that make Texas so unique.
Henry has made his name as a documentary photographer, and he has always held an interest in recording and documenting the lives of ordinary people. This quality imbues Miles and Miles of Texas with a grounded sense of humanity, and also ensures that there are plenty of interesting and often humorous details for readers to discover. More than anything, Henry appreciates a good story.
Additionally, a 20th anniversary edition of Henry Horenstein’s book Honky Tonk will be published to coincide with the release of Miles and Miles of Texas. Honky Tonk, which Henry first published in 2005, features portraits of country musicians taken during the 1970s, and includes some pictures he made with Rounder Records, a label that represented many of the leading country artists of that time.
Honky Tonk has long been out of print, and it will be great to have it back in stock alongside Miles and Miles of Texas, which also includes plenty of photographs of country music culture in Texas.
Henry Horenstein has been a professional photographer, filmmaker, teacher, and author since the 1970s. Henry’s work is collected and exhibited internationally and he has published over 40 books, including several monographs of his own work. In recent years, Henry has directed five films, including one on Austin’s own Broken Spoke. Henry is Professor of Photography at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and lives in Boston.
