In 2012, while living as an expat in Paris, I dedicated myself to the construction of a visual language that would allow me to cultivate a deeper understanding of my partner, Sarah, and the impact our lifestyle was having on us, as individuals and as a couple. I began to consider our eagerness to adapt to cultural differences and our desire to make that place feel less alien. The series, Tokens Of Recollection, combines tightly cropped vignettes of Sarah—concentrating on capturing an emotion or display of body language, while isolating those phenomena from the interference of place & time—with photographs of objects chosen from our immediate surroundings. This body of work is the product of continuous introspection and an ongoing attempt to identify the ingredients that combine to make a particular place feel like home, primarily through observation of Sarah and recording the little things that stick in my mind.
