Galerie Roger-Viollet Outside the Walls : Irmeli Jung : Faces from Paris and elsewhere

Preview

The Galerie Roger-Viollet Hors les Murs and the city hall of the 10ᵉ arrondissement of Paris present their new exhibition Irmeli Jung – Visages de Paris et d’ailleurs.

Born in Finland in 1947, Irmeli Jung discovered photography at the age of 13. In 1965, she moved to Hanover in Germany and completed her apprenticeship with the photographer Kurt Julius. In January 1968, while she was staying in Paris, a friend invited her to attend a recital by Juliette Gréco. The following year after a rehearsal, Gréco having discovered her work, accredits her for her new recital. Irmeli then decided to leave Hanover and settled in Paris. She photographed Juliette Gréco throughout her life. This was the beginning of a long collaboration with other artists such as Georges Moustaki, Mouloudji, Maurice Dulac, Barbara or Jacques Brel and created many of their album covers. In October 1984, she learned that the World of Books had decided to publish photos, and went to present her portfolio. Since then, Irmeli Jung has photographed dozens of authors and works regularly for numerous publications and publishing houses. Irmeli Jung’s work is distributed exclusively by the Roger-Viollet agency.
