Our favorite of the week: this portfolio by Bertrand Delais from the Galerie Gadcollection, entitled Le Pays d’Othe and accompanied by this text.
The Pays d’Othe, a small, forgotten piece of land between the foothills of Champagne and northern Burgundy, offers two unique features that caught Bertrand Delais’s eye.
“While traveling through this region, I was captivated by the harmony emanating from the landscapes. The composition was almost reminiscent of Tuscany. With a lone tree at the top of the hill, groves hugging the hillside. Apple trees have replaced the cypresses. I wanted to capture a bit of that balance.”
Bertrand Delais’s photographs are faithful to his work, a pictorial exploration full of balance and nuance, always evoking painting.
“The chalky soil of this region gives off a bright, white light, a bit like in the estuaries, and it enlivens the colors; that’s what I wanted to capture.”
With this series, Bertrand Delais offers a meditative and soothing perspective.
A gentleness that reassures and feels good.
