Emmanuelle Fructus presents her exhibition Histoires / Images at Galerie Chaptal until December 20th 2025. She writes:
This exhibition gives me the opportunity to share my research, my path in the way of approaching the photographic medium: technical processes, optical instruments, stories and silences.
To look at photography while deliberately sidestepping the figurative element has become for me a foundational gesture. Moving toward abstraction has allowed me to transcend the approach that for a long time was the very reason for my work: the consultation of images. It is no longer a matter of collecting human figures, but of questioning our very way of seeing and of replaying the history of images. By revealing their interstices, their gaps, and sometimes even their zones of confusion, I have taken pleasure in making other forms emerge, other imaginaries of reading.
Format(s) is an exploration of the camera obscura and the camera lucida, of safelight, of photographic paper and of format, in the history of photography. This work is not based on erudite research. It reads rather like an imprint that oscillates between visible and invisible, between poetry and the history of techniques.
