Florence Chevallier on the Aveyron River

Preview

During a residency at the Atelier Blanc (Villefranche-de-Rouergue), Florence Chevallier produced a series entitled Rivière (River) that uses the banks of the Aveyron for scenery and the local inhabitants as models. This series lies within the scope of her oeuvre, continuing the themes found in her series Enchantements (1996 – 1999), and Des Journées Entières (1999).

“All of my work since Corps autoportraits (1980), from Le Bonheur (1993) through L’Enchantement (1997), should be seen as an attempt to decipher and unveil the existential confrontating the painful ambiguity of appearances with the desire of incarnate vision .” (Florence Chevallier – 1997)

The exhibition Brève Durée, on the ground floor on a restored water mill, presents Chevallier’s latest work, including extracts from the series Rivière (2008) and Toucher Terre (2010). Three videos by the artist will be screened on the second floor, demonstrating the importance of cinema in the photographer’s work.
