Exhibition Trail: Les Filles du Calvaire

Preview

In a beautiful industrial building in the Marais, the Filles du Calvaire gallery is exhibiting Pascal Aimar’s most accomplished work from the series Figure(s), and the more personal work of Mat Jacob : Être, à l’Ouest a photographic journey into his native Finistère.

The 2001 series Car En Sac is the beginning of the radicalization of Pascal Aimar’s work. By systematically using photography, close to his subjects, he worked his way into drivers’ intimacy. His 2002 story called Passantes portraits of women in the streets of Bordeaux, and the 2006 Foule, portraits of pedestrians in Beijing, Figure(s) is a collection of these three projects, and is his most complete. Pascal Aimar chooses to show people through the invisible, harsh and tragic side of human conscience.

With Être, à l’Ouest, Mat Jacob distances himself from documentary reporting and explodes the personal diary, questioning the ties that bind and define us. He explores the past and looks for present day signs that reveal man, his mystery, his solitude, his straying. He talks of the Universal.
