From June 13 to July 20, 2025, the Galerie L’ANGLE celebrates its seventh anniversary with the exhibition Aragon_III (ter-terre) by Abel Bourgeois.
“Like a ‘companion’ of photography, Abel Bourgeois intensely and tirelessly explores the landscape of Aragon, this vast region in northern Spain. Armed with a camera tailored to his eye and hand, he draws from this ever-renewed and ever-changing unknown a rich photographic material, which he works on before delivering it to us on paper.
With this third Aragonese opus, Abel Bourgeois completes his enchanting view of a vast world we are always trying to grasp… His photographs, captured in the heart of mysterious environments, transport us into a dreamlike universe where the boundaries between the visible and the invisible blur. Deserts, cliffs, and caves—where our eyes can no longer grasp scale or distance—reveal a balance that is both perfect and precarious, a fascinating mirage, a very real imagination borne by the colors of this land.
And the photographer adds: ‘And here we are, belonging to this so vulnerable world.’”

Abel Bourgeois
Born in Paris in 1965, Abel Bourgeois now lives in Anglet. A self-taught photographer, he has practiced photography since childhood. Trained as a cabinetmaker and always in search of simplicity, he constantly invents new photographic tools for himself: pinhole cameras, large-format cameras, even crafting his own lenses using water.
With these tools, and as a dedicated photographer facing unusual landscapes, he explores effects, blurs, and optical distortions that allow him to project beyond the captured image, creating an atmosphere or mood that viewers can embrace to invent their own imaginary world…
Abel Bourgeois, who leads many workshops—especially in schools—also engages with various image reproduction techniques: printing, screen printing, photogravure… His work thus intersects with early photographic processes, such as gum bichromate printing, a method that appears simple but proves particularly delicate, surprising, even stubborn; or cyanotype, whose color renderings he develops further.
The exhibition Aragon_III (ter-terre), presented exclusively at L’ANGLE, marks the photographer’s fourth collaboration with the gallery since 2018.
