For the third edition of the CONTACT Photobook Club, Roï Saade presents Bound Narratives: A Photobook Archive, a curated selection of photobooks from and about the MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) region. Saade will also share insights into his project and practice as a photobook designer, publisher, and collector.
Roï Saade is a Lebanese interdisciplinary artist, designer, and publisher interested in the intersectionality between graphic design, photography, and the arts. In 2022, he founded Bound Narratives, a roving archive, workshop, and exhibition program conceived to promote photobooks by MENA artists and photographers. It strives to build a broad and open repository of visual materials to stimulate learning and critical discourse that contributes to the foundation of photobook history in the region. Saade is also the founder of Huwawa, an artist-led publishing house foregrounding anti-colonial and cultural counter-narratives from the Middle East and North Africa. Huwawa’s inaugural publication Landing by Maen Hammad is available for purchase now.
CONTACT Photobook Club is a bimonthly community event that welcomes photobook makers, collectors, and enthusiasts to discuss recent titles and the medium itself. Open to all, the Club is hosted at The Photobook Lab, CONTACT’s year-round book shop and reading room.
