Ruin Bar – Szimpla Kert – Budapest
During my stay in Budapest on the summer of 2023, I returned several times to take some photos of this iconic place, which is the Ruin Bar – Szimpla Kert, elected the 3rd best bar in the world by Lonely Planet magazine.
Szimpla Kert is Budapest’s first Ruin Bar, opened in 2002 in a building in ruins, which sheltered in the past a factory and some apartments.
It’s a must-see Hungarian night spot, with a unique underground atmosphere and eclectic crowds. People also come to have a drink, a meal, or to attend live concerts and outdoor movies.
During my visit, I’m discovering the two levels with 9 bars which offer more than 400 drinks.
The upstairs, a real labyrinth, surprises me with lot of rooms, each having its own theme, its unique decoration and its own atmosphere. Lot of old stuff, sometimes turned away from their main destination, tags on the walls. A joyful and unique in a jumble, that makes an uncontestable charm.
The Szimpla Kert is certainly the most visited ruin bar in Budapest, but no doubt that’s the most original and unique suchlike. Relaxing atmosphere during the day, effervescent during the night, this place also offers an unforgettable photographic experience…
