Editions Obcd Visuel : Andreas Mahl : Selection 7

Preview

Editions Obcd Visuel present Selection 7, a new monograph devoted this year to Andreas Mahl.

Following last year’s volume devoted to Marc Peverelli, this new opus traces an artistic career carried out almost entirely with the instant medium—from the small 600 format with the famous SX-70 to the very large 50×60 camera, via the more confidential Spectra format.

A 100-page bilingual book printed on matte coated paper, the texts that accompany the volume come from writers such as Jan Hnizdo, the technician who systematically accompanied the very large camera—whether in Cannes, Arles, the Grand Palais, Trouville or Rodez—Jean-Jacques Aillagon, former Minister of Culture, and Jean-Luc Monterosso, former director of the MEP.

All pay tribute to a creator now represented in many private and institutional collections.

A past master in the art of transforming Polaroids through meticulous, targeted interventions during image development, Andreas is part—like his fellow artist Pedro Uhart—of the first generation of artists approached by the Polaroid company to seize this new medium and divert it, mistreat it, and transform it, embracing the artistic sphere with unique objects that have become works of art in their own right.

His portrait of Delphine Seyrig and Sami Frey remains, no doubt, the iconic image for an entire generation, thanks to the poster for the theatre play « La bête dans la jungle » in 1982.
