Release by Éditions Jonglez — Théâtres Parisiens – Lieux d’exception — architectural photography by Dimitri Bourriau.
A book devoted to Parisian theatres, cinemas and performance venues, bringing together some fifty different places.
The author presents it as follows:
In 2020, the COVID pandemic brought everything to a standstill. With borders closed, the world slowed down, postponing all travel plans. What if this was the moment to build a new project?
If abandonment is not always at the heart of my images, the memory of places remains central. I decided to begin a new series devoted to Parisian theatres, cinemas and performance venues emblematic sites of French cultural heritage, dedicated to emotions, dreams and staging the world. Sculpted balconies, heavy velvet curtains, frescoes, gilding, monumental chandeliers…
My photographs reveal the architectural richness and the singular atmosphere between silence and light—of these temples of live art. Behind their brilliance, there is also the weight of time, the traces of an exceptional cultural history.
This book is the result of that work, a way to pursue my approach: to keep memory alive, to document not only places, but also a certain idea of refinement, artistic sharing and beauty.
It is also a tribute to all those who, in the shadows or under the spotlight, keep the magic of performance alive every day.
